| Details: | On March 3, 2010, the Philippines, through the telecentre.org Foundation, will officially welcome and be host to telecentre.org 2.0, a global program working to improve the social and economic impact of grassroots telecentres around the world.
The Turnover and Launch Ceremonies will be from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon, to be held tentatively at the Malacaňang Palace. This will immediately be followed by an International Telecentre Forum, from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The forum will gather international telecentre leaders and partners for discussions on the global telecentre experience and the role of telecentres in the arena of climate change. telecentre.org is a global program originally hosted by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Since it was launched in Tunis during the World Summit on Information Society in 2005, its social investors —IDRC, Microsoft and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation — planned for both the program’s successful start‐up and its eventual transfer to an organization in the developing world. Due to its world‐renowned Community eCenter (CeC) program, and the demonstrated effects in the global partnership of telecentre.org, the Philippines has been chosen from among 70 partner countries to host telecentre.org from 2010 to 2015, with CICT, IDRC and Microsoft powering the initiative. |
