As some of you will already have learned, telecentre.org has reached an understanding and is in the early planning phase with the Commission on Information and Communications Technology to devolve its Secretariat. Together, we are seeking to identify an institution that will become the Secretariat’s new host by 2010. It will likely be based in the Philippines.
telecentre.org is a 21-million dollar program that aims to improve the social and economic impact of grassroots telecentres around the world by supporting the networks that work with them. It is also a global movement of people and organizations that believe information and communication technologies have the power to transform communities by bringing the knowledge society to their door.
Since creating telecentre.org in 2005, its original funders — the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Microsoft and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation — planned for both the successful start up of telecentre.org and the eventual transfer of the program to an organization in the developing world. Today’s announcement signals that, with its success secured, telecentre.org is now ready to make progress towards achieving its long-term goal. |

Now it is time to give due recognition and incentives to you as a deserving blogger. Blog and share your stories on telecentre.org English website.
The telecentre.org English website is staging the first ever blog contest which will run from April 20 to May 20, 2009.
Haven’t written any blog ever? Do you think blogging is something hard? Not at all. Just try it. It is nothing but your diary. All you need to do is to keep writing and express yourself. Only your focus needs to be related to ICT4D.
Background and Objectives
The telecentre.org community has grown tremendously over the past few months. In less than a year, membership in all four language sites (English, Spanish, French and Arabic) has grown to over a thousand, with the English site alone having around a thousand members. A lot of interaction has been going on through groups and forums, blogs and comments, with a good number of members participating actively and contributing content to the website. Blogs being a major form of knowledge sharing and in an effort to further engage the members of the telecentre.org community, the English team has decided to hold the first ever blog contest at telecentre.org. |

Senior citizens give the computers a try. The Community eCenter (CeC) in Zamboanga City has been standing sturdy for years. People from all walks of life drop by at the kiosk located at the 2nd floor of the National Computer Center - Field Operations Office to do their thing and be connected to the world for free. It's 2009 and most probably almost everyone in the city already know how to surf the Internet, but surprisingly, there are still many who are wet behind the ears.
A retired doctor in education shared her frustrations with regard to Information Technology. The computer unit at home was left unused when all her three daughters migrated to Canada. She finds the phone useful but an expensive way of communicating with them. Not until she learned about the CeC of NCC-FOO last month has she decided to learn about the Net through the one-day free computer hands-on training. |
