The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), in the implementation of the Philippine Community eCenter (CeC) Roadmap, invites municipal governments particularly those without any form of CeC in their locality to apply for the hosting of a CeC. A CeC is a self-sustaining shared facility providing affordable access to ICT-enabled services and relevant content. It serves as a conduit for efficient delivery of government and other services and a potent tool for empowerment and participation of unserved and underserved communities in development. To date, a total of 755 CeCs are in existence, and these are implemented by various CeC initiatives in the Philippines. The establishment of new CeCs under CICT is one of four components of the roadmap implementation project which will be funded under the eGovernment Fund. The other three components are: the transformation of existing school laboratories and Internet cafes into CeCs; capability building; and content development. |

In just two weeks since its announcement to the public on March 10, the PhilCeCNet online community has now reached the one hundred-member mark. The PhilCeCNet online community, which makes use of the Ning platform, replaced the old Fireboard forum of the Philippine Community eCenter portal. It complements the PhilCeC portal in that it now incorporates such interactive features as groups, forums and member profiles, enabling CeC implementers and stakeholders nationwide to get to know one another, exchange ideas on common issues and interests, and stay connected. Members can also make use of the RSVP functionality for important events such as the upcoming 5th Knowledge Exchange Conference (KEC) for CeCs. In anticipation of the latter, a discussion was opened to provide members with the opportunity to have their say and make suggestions on the conference sessions, resource persons as well as other logistical matters. |
