San Remigio CeC accredited as skills and ability testing center

The Community eCenter of San Remigio will be adding another CeC service to its roster this year.

Last month, the CeC was accredited as an authorized skills and ability testing center for job seekers who want to work locally and abroad. This accreditation was made possible through the support Philippine CeC Network (PhilCecNet) and its partnership Behavioral Dynamics, Inc., and Learning Rhythms Development & Consulting Services .

Skills assessment is usually done in Manila - an additional cost to job seekers in terms of travel and lodging expenses. With this accreditation, San Remigio CeC will now handle the skill assessment needs of clients within the province of Cebu. There is also a possibility for the CeC to cover neighboring provinces in Central Visayas, with the absence of an accredited center in the area.

Aside from San Remigio, the CeC of Nueva Vizcaya is also an accredited skills and ability testing center.

The Department of Education in partnership with Intel, the National Computer Center and the Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Company conducted the InfoTeach Training for selected teachers and students in Cebu City.

The training, to be held at the National Computer Center - Visayas Laboratory, began last February and will end on March 9. A total of 15 students and 30 teachers are to be trained.

The InfoTeach Training helps teachers who have little to no computer experience acquire technology literacy skills and develop 21st century approaches to teaching and learning. The Intel Teach Program consists of 12 modules that can be customized to the needs of each school. The module includes the Developing 21st Century Skills, Basics of the Computer and the Internet, Fostering Critical Thinking and Collaboration, Word Processing, Multimedia and Spreadsheets.

In terms of digital literacy training, the Philippine Community eCenter Program, together with its partners, has spearheaded the Philippine Digital Literacy for Women Campaign. The campaign is currently working with CeCs located nationwide to reach its 10,000 women target.

The Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture (OPAPA), represented by Mr. Roger Barroga, was officially awarded as one of the winners of the 2010 AGFUND International Prize on February 27 at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati.

It should be noted that OPAPA was declared as the winner for the third category prize of the AGFUND International Prize last 2010 . The said category focused on projects adopting and developing innovation to enhance ICT for development in remote and rural communities, implemented by governments and public institutions. However, the official awarding was delayed due to unforeseen events and circumstances.

Congratulations to our friends in OPAPA and more power!
