The municipality of Del Carmen, together with the Philippine Community eCenter Program, successfully established a second Community eCenter site, this time in the barangay of Sayak. As a gateway to the island of Siargao in Surigao del Norte, the Del Carmen CeC and the Sayak Barangay CeC are important facilities that are expected to cater to the needs of guests, students and other establishments within the area.

As one of the beneficiaries for the Year 2 Phase of the PhilCeC Program, the Sayak CeC received an equipment package comprising of four computer units, a four-in-one equipment of scanner, printer, facsimile and copier, two web cameras and cabling connections. To develop CeC-related competencies and skills, CeC knowledge workers Dom Adrel Lipio and Mark Macon Alipaspas attended the Essentials of CeC management training crash course held by the PhilCeC Program for Mindanao LGUs last January.

Presently, the CeC is located in the Barangay Office of Sayak. A separate center will be constructed soon on a lot donated by the barangay. It will offer digital literacy programs and farmers/fisherfolk education to help the community adopt new technologies.

Thanks to the support of the Philippine Community eCenter Program, the Libona CeC is making headway in bringing its services down to the barangays as part of its 'CeC sa Barangays' initiative.

The initiative was conceived by the Libona CeC Core Group and was incorporated in the People to People Program (PPP) of the local government. Under this program, critical services are brought down to the barangay for easier access. The Libona CeC offers, as its primary service, information and knowledge through free one-day basic computer literacy introduction training. To date, a total of 50 people have benefited from this activity. For additional learning, participants are encouraged to visit the CeC.

To date, a total of 60 students and 9 teachers have completed the three-day computer literacy course of the Lavezares CeC. The course consists of learning sessions on word processing and spreadsheet. In the coming days, the Lavezares CeC will provide updates and new inputs like e-learning materials for the teachers and pupils to use in their daily lessons.
