Here’s an interesting and very much relevant article from Robert Hawkins posted at the World Bank EduTech blog site.
According to Hawkins, whose list is primarily an aggregation of projections from leading forecasters, personal observations plus - in his own words - “a good dose of guesswork”, the Top 10 Global Trends in ICT and Education are:
1. Mobile Learning 2. Cloud Computing 3. One-to-One Computing 4. Ubiquitous Learning 5. Gaming 6. Personalized Learning 7. Redefinition of Learning Spaces 8. Teacher-Generated Open Content 9. Smart Portfolio Assessment 10. Teacher Managers/Mentors

Only three more weeks before nominations for the 1st Philippine Community eCenter (CeC) Excellence Awards officially close. Spearheaded by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology, through the Philippine CeC Project Management Office, the call for nominations will end on January 31, 2010.
The awards, a first of its kind in the country, will recognize the exemplary performances of CeCs and CeC knowledge workers. The search is open to all CeC initiatives in the Philippines and all active CeC knowledge workers.
Aside from the honor of being the country's first ever recipients of the CeC Excellence Awards, exciting prizes await the winners and finalists. The grand winner in the CeC Category will get a maximum cash grant of P100,000.00 for a CeC project, an equipment grant that consists of four computers and one printer, plus a plaque of recognition from CICT. On the other hand, the grand winner in the CeC Knowledge Worker Category will receive a laptop, a scholarship grant to CeC Academy courses to include travel and allowances, plus a plaque of recognition from CICT. Meanwhile, aside from a plaque of recognition, finalists in both categories will also get their share of prizes. For the CeC Category, they will get a choice of one computer or an LCD projector. For the CeC Knowledge Worker Category, on the other hand, finalists will receive a digital camera plus a scholarship grant to CeC Academy courses. Guidelines and nomination forms are available at the Downloads section of the PhilCeCNet portal under the 1st CeC Excellence Awards folder.

Angelo Ramos, a key leader of the telecentre movement in the Philippines, has prepared a short digital documentary/commentary giving us his personal perspective on who belongs and uses telecentres. It questions the gendered perception of how telecentres or public access points are used.
It is well done and very thoughtful, enjoy and spread the word... we are sissies and proud of it!
