AIJC completes public domain information inventory on health emergency and disaster management

The Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC), with the Department of Health (DOH) Region VIII, recently completed the inventory of public domain information focusing on health emergency and disaster management.

The project, supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), aims to provide health emergency managers and workers quick access to “readily usable knowledge and information on health emergencies”.

The database can be found at the AIJC website. It will also be uploaded soon in the DOH-Region VIII website.

1st Sem 2010 Calendar of ICT Courses now available

NCC-FOO Calendar of Courses Sem 1 2010The National Computer Institute (NCI), the training arm of the National Computer Center (NCC), as well as the NCC-Field Operations Office have made available their line-up of ICT courses for the first semester of 2010.

NCI is located at the CICT-NCC Building in Diliman, Quezon City while NCC-FOO is based in Zamboanga City.

Pilar CeC gears up to be an island ICT hub

Mayor Lucio Gonzales is delighted to have Pilar, one of the towns in the island of Siargao, Surigao del Norte, as one of the Community eCenter (CeC) beneficiaries for this year. The town’s selection means a great deal to its constituents. Pilar has no Internet café or facilities in the area. With the CeC Program, however, Mayor Gonzales anticipates it to significantly affect his constituent’s lives, particularly their education through ICT.

The town of Pilar is known as the Game Fishing Capital of the Philippines because of its famous Magpupungko Beach, visited by both local and international tourists. When these tourists ask where and how they can connect to the Internet while they are in Pilar, the answer was always the same: Go to Dapa, an hour away from Pilar.

Facing this dilemma, Mayor Gonzales set about to look for an Internet service provider to have their local government unit connected online, not only for the benefit of the tourists but also for all Pilar residents. What he found was the CeC Program, and the rest is history.
