The National Computer Center conducted an orientation to the stakeholder members composing the Community eCenter (CeC) Core Group in Paranas, Samar last December 11, 2009.
The core group was well-represented with members coming from various peoples’ organizations in the community such as student officers from Wright National High School, the Federation President of Women’s Organization in Paranas, local barangay leaders, a guidance counselor from Samar State University - Paranas Campus, and a handful of representatives from the local government unit (LGU).
The conduct of basic computer literacy courses was identified as one of the priority services to be offered by Paranas CeC.
Barangay secretaries, Ms. Marissel Babalcon of Barangay Poblacion 1 and Ms. Liza Abarcar of Barangay Poblacion 5, were both excited to hear about this service offering and expressed interest in availing the Internet Basics and Office Applications course at the local CeC.
After hearing about the Tanauan CeC success story, both realized the need to upgrade their skills in document composition and spreadsheet applications, and were happy to note about the affordable rates in availing the said course. They noted that a five-hour training on computer and Internet usage priced at a hundred pesos at the Tanauan CeC is, indeed, a welcome opportunity compared to the cost for hourly computer rentals in Catbalogan City, which is an hour away from the municipality. The Municipal Mayor, Hon. Felix T. Babalcon, Jr., believes that the establishment of the CeC would bring the municipality of Paranas closer to the empowering vibe brought about by information technology. |
