There are various existing Community eCenters in the country. Several success stories were showcased during the 5th Knowledge Exchange Conference on CeCs in September last year, which became an inspiration to many. But for others, the real status of their CeC is still vague. Is the infrastructure enough? Do the services/products offered meet the needs of the people? How about providing information and knowledge that the community really needs? In question also is the sustainability of the CeCs, especially with the threat of change of leadership in the face of the upcoming national elections. The CeC management must have a long term view while the knowledge workers must work towards known and established goals. Now, more than ever, is an opportune time to establish new partnerships and generate new ideas and insights. The goal of system support of the Philippine CeC Program ensures that national machinery for ICT-driven development will make the CeC capable of responding to challenges brought about by the rapid developments in technology. Now is the time for the CeCs to review their goals and make an assessment to determine how far they have come in achieving those goals and map out the necessary actions. The government is taking all necessary steps to bring ICT services/products to all citizens with the CeCs as conduits. Let us, therefore, take all the necessary actions to ensure that we are moving in that direction. |
