eSkwela, Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture receive international recognition

Two members of the Philippine CeC Network (PhilCeCNet), the eSkwela of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) and the Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture (OPAPA) led by the Philippine Rice Research Institute, gained recognition and honor from two different international award bodies. The eSkwela project was the recipient of one of the two honorable mentions given in the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communications Technologies in Education, the purpose of which is to reward projects and activities which creatively utilizes information and communication technologies to enhance educational performance. The eSkwela is a flagship project of the CICT and the Department of Education's Bureau of Alternative Learning System which provides ICT-enahnced educational opportunities for out-of-school youths and adults (OSYAs). Meanwhile, the Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture (OPAPA) was declared as one of the four winners of the AGFUND International Prize for 2010. OPAPA won the third category prize, a category which focuses projects adopting and developing innovation to enhance ICT for development in remote and rural communities, implemented by governments and public institutions.
